Hisham Altalib was born in the Iraqi city of Mosul. He earned a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Liverpool University (1962) and a Ph.D. in the same subject from Purdue University in Lafayette , Indiana , USA (1974). During his professional activity as an electrical engineer, he became active for Islam in North America. Offices he has held in various Islamic organizations include full-time Director of the Leadership Training Department of the Muslim Students Association of the United States and Canada (MSA) (1975-1977) and Secretary General of the International Islamic Federation of Student Organizations (IIFSO) 1976 to 1980. He has led many training camps and seminars in America and abroad. He is a founding member and director of the SAAR Foundation (1983-1995) and a founding member of the International Institute of Islamic Thought ( IIIT ; International Institute for Islamic Thought ) in 1981. His functions include, in particular, that of the long-standing finance director of the IIIT.
