The International Islamic Federation of Student Organizations (IIFSO) participated in the 12th Congress of the National Union of Mauritanian Students (UNEM), held in Nouakchott with wide student attendance and excellent organization that reflected the awareness and responsibility of the Mauritanian student movement.
IIFSO was represented by Dr. Abdullah Ahmed, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Arab Region, who expressed IIFSO’s deep appreciation for the outstanding organization and the serious discussions and constructive youth visions that emphasized the important role of students in serving universities and the educational system, and in strengthening democratic participation within the student sphere.
The 12th General Congress of UNEM was held under the theme: “25 Years of Institutional Work — A Struggle that Secures Rights and Protects Achievements.” Around 350 representatives of the student movement from Mauritanian universities took part in the three-day event, during which they reviewed the performance report of the outgoing term, the oversight report of the student council, and the Union’s updated constitution and strategic plan for the upcoming term — all of which were approved before electing the new leadership bodies.
The IIFSO delegation expressed its admiration and pride in the remarkable organization of the congress and the constructive exchanges among young participants, which highlighted the pivotal role of students in serving their universities and communities, and in advancing the democratic process in the student arena.
At the conclusion of the congress, IIFSO congratulated Mr. Mohamed Yahya on the renewed confidence of his colleagues and his re-election as Secretary General of UNEM, affirming that this renewal reflects his competence, integrity, and dedicated service to students and the defense of their rights.
IIFSO also extended its best wishes to him and the newly elected leadership, calling for continued cooperation and joint efforts between IIFSO and UNEM in future youth programs and initiatives.
