Dr Ömer Faruk Korkmaz graduated from Istanbul Imam Hatip High School. He completed his undergraduate studies in Arabic and English in the International Islamic University Faculty of Theology in Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan, and his master's degree in English in the history of religions. He received his doctorate degree with his thesis titled "Zoroastrianism Today" at Ankara University Theology Department of History of Religions. He worked as a research assistant at Sivas Cumhuriyet University, Faculty of Theology, Department of History of Religions for a while.

He was the general secretary of the International Federation of Muslim Student Organizations (IIFSO), one of the first NGOs established in the Islamic World. He played an active role in the establishment of D-8. Later, he concentrated on activities in the field of education. He participated in many seminars and conferences on the Islamic World and education at home and abroad; His articles were published in various newspapers and magazines.

He is currently the founder and chairman of the Board of the Continuing Education and Solidarity Association (SEDAV), the founder and vice chairman of the Foreign Students Foundation (SIRF), the board member of the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and the chairman of the KÜTTAB Association.

He is one of the participants of the program called "Min Istanbul" in TRT ARAPÇA, where current developments are discussed on Saturday evenings. Ömer Faruk Korkmaz was appointed as the Chief Advisor to Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in January 2016.
