A Statement by Islamic and Arab Students Unions and Federations on the Terrorist Attack against Muslim Students in the USA
As the policy of double standards and selective reactions prevailed, we were watching closely the inhumane murder of Muslim students in North Carolina in the United States of America. A murder which no words can describe other than being a hate and racist one.
In our names, we send our deep condolences to the families of the martyrs and victims of hate and double standards against the Muslim-American students: Deah Shadi Barakat, Yusr Muhammed About Salha and Razan Muhammed Abou Salha.
We as students unions and international organizations, condemn these crimes, and we express outrage for the double standards, stressing the following:
1. Our condemnation of the terrorist crime, with all its dimensions starting from the criminal up to the obvious disregard by most of the western media outlets. Which is unlike what happened when they dealt with the #CharlieHebdo attack in France weeks ago.
2. The exigency of applying the laws that deal with hate crime, without any differentiation amongst groups.
3. We appeal to the American Jurisdiction, punishing the offenders with full scale of the law.
4. We appeal to the Muslim Students’ Unions and Youth Committees worldwide, especially in the USA, to take a clear stance concerning these actions especially that the victims are peaceful students!
5. We show our appreciation for those media outlets, who reported from the first minute on clearly and without any bias.
6. We appeal to the leaders of the countries who marched in the international demonstration against terrorism in Paris, not to disregard this case, knowing that the murder of students is an act of terrorism which doesn’t disappear by prescription.
7. We express our thankfulness to the fellow Americans who stood in solidarity with the families of the martyrs against hate and violence.
